Radical Affordability

Design PCM swaddles that cost under $5—40x cheaper than hospital warmers.
No electricity. No plastic waste. Just smart design.

Designed for the Last Mile

Made for birth in real conditions—on dirt floors, in flood zones, or with no power. Our swaddles are color-coded and midwife-friendly with no instructions needed.

Circular & Local

Train local women’s co-ops to remelt used PCMs, creating jobs and building a closed-loop system that sustains both warmth and livelihoods.

How Does It Work?

Balu's swaddle utilizes phase-change material (PCM) technology to provide safe, reliable warmth for newborns—no electricity required. The same science used in high-tech applications like NASA spacesuits is now simplified for life-saving use in homes and clinics everywhere.

To activate the swaddle, simply submerge it in hot water for five minutes. The PCM inside absorbs heat during this process, storing thermal energy like a battery. Once warmed, the swaddle maintains a consistent 37°C temperature for six hours or more, creating the perfect microenvironment for a newborn.

This reusable design eliminates the waste of single-use warmers while being radically more affordable. No cords, no disposable parts, just simple, sustainable protection against hypothermia. Whether in a modern clinic or a remote home birth, Balu delivers life-saving warmth exactly where it's needed.
